1/29 Cod on ISLAND CURRENT III
Capt. Scott called in to report a very unique day out on the cod grounds. Today we had an excellent turn out of anglers eager to dig into the wonderful two weeks of fishing we have been having. We headed to the grounds with plenty of fresh skimmer clams and plenty of chum. Upon surveying the area the bottom life looked phenomenal and the bait presence was extremely strong. However, after making several drifts and anchoring up we realized we had to make a bold move and explore new terrain.
Capt. Scott began combing the area and looking for something to bend the rods. After some time spent searching he finally came across a nice pile of fish and decided to drop the anchor and chum them up. It started off as a slow pick but started to get the fish to chew into a steady consistent pattern. THE MOVE PAID OFF BIG TIME 🎣
At the days end, Joe H. from Stamford, CT had a limit of cod, Peter R. from CT and his group scored well filling up the cooler and everyone went home with BIG bags of tasty fillets of codfish! Ivan C from CT had the pool with a jumbo 24.8lbs pounds respectively. All the fish were caught on bait rigs today and the anchoring was the more productive method.
