Thursday, 1/26 COD ON ISLAND CURRENT III
This morning we pulled o of SNUG HARBOR MARINA at 5 AM oard the 50` ISLAND CURRENT II & 76` ISLAND CURRENT III with Ca. James & Ca. Brendan at the helm. The weather was oultely awesome with calm seas and mild temperatures. Both vessels were loaded with fresh skimmers and jigs.
Ca. Brendan stated, that the morning bite was decent as the cod would start b then get over powered by the dogfish. By the days end Ca. Brendan managed to p a resple catch of cod together for the private group of 12 headed by Sean E. & Mario C., from CT.
The open boat crowd managed to pick away at the cod early in the morning as the fish would come in shots. Today the dogfish were more of an issue than we had seen in past trips. Overall, the bait did oproduce the jigs today. Some highlights included Jimmy Z. from Mahopac, NY leading the hi-hook department with 9 nice green cod. Others from our Charlestown, RI group had 6-7 fish apiece, and some with a few less. We manage to p a decent catch together b it was nothing like the last two trips. The grounds are loaded with plenty of bait consisting of mackerel & herring.
